The brief. B&T Goods International, a premium personal-care company, plans to launch Sariwa Silk shampoo in a 100 g tube in the Philippines, first of its kind in the market, sold for precise dosing and travel. The Sariwa Silk line grew 6% in 2023 and B&T wants 15% growth in 2024 with the launch. Sid Mendoza, the president, is convinced the tube will bring new customers. Rex Lim, the head of marketing, is not: he thinks existing buyers may switch from the bottles, and he wants to know whether the target should be the same in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Your job: decide whether B&T should launch the tube, for whom and positioned against what, and what the 2024 sales targets should be, region by region, in value and in volume.

How this page works

  1. Read the case from the link in the syllabus. Keep Exhibits 1 and 2 open.
  2. Copy the numbers from the case into the green cells. The tool builds every table and does every calculation.
  3. Answer the questions in Parts A to D. Most answers are a choice from a list or one line of text.
  4. In Part D you choose two things (how much of the tube's sales comes from existing buyers, and how to split the tube across regions); the tool turns them into 2024 targets.
  5. Write the decision, add your names, and download the PDF. That PDF is what you hand in.
you type it, from the casecalculated by the tool

Everyone uses the same three assumptions

  • The price in Exhibit 1 is what B&T earns for each unit sold.
  • 100 g of shampoo is about 100 ml.
  • Sariwa Silk's 2023 revenue is the total of Exhibit 2.

C

Segmentation, targeting, positioning

Fill this in

C1Three segments

Combine one behavioural base (where and when the shampoo is used) with one geographic base (the regions).

C2Targeting

Target in each region, in a few words. Rex's clues: Luzon sells the most shampoo but P&G and Unilever are strong there; Visayas has many tourist destinations; Mindanao is more fragmented.
